About

Contemporary Era

(1970 - Now)
Also referred to as the “More is More” Era. Large-scale jewellery started being produced as Pop Art and Bohemian fashions came into popularity.

Unconventional materials such as plastic and wood became the new medium of fabricating jewellery. Further, prioritizing self-expression over traditional styles and materials became increasingly popular. Jewellery of the Contemporary Era was labelled as “wearable art”.

As we headed into the 1980s, jewellery styles became even more extravagant, with women donning oversized hoop earrings and chunky necklaces. As it became more common to see women in the workplace, the demand for purchasing "work wear" jewellery increased as well.

Costume jewellery truly began to take center stage during the 80s. With maximalism in full force, plastic jewellery was bright, eye-catching, and a cost-effective way to express individuality.

Contemporary jewellery is something that will always be in style, because its something that is “made in current time”.

Moonstone - Feldspar

Moonstone was given its name to describe the mesmerizing visual effect it has, called adularescence. This effect is caused by light diffraction through alternating layers of the stone. The light varies from white to blue, depending on the thinness of the layers. Moonstone has been associated with the moon throughout history- for example, the Romans once believed that the stone was formed by moonbeams. Moonstones can be found in Armenia, Australia, the Austrian Alps, Mexico, Madagascar, Myanmar, Norway, Poland, India, Sri Lanka, and the United States. Moonstones rank a 6 on the Mohs hardness scale.
